Dolf Henneke Exposition

Client: Historisch Centrum Overijssel
Collaboration:
Allemaal Zwolle
Agency: IQ-Media

Dolf Henneke was a Dutch press photographer based in Zwolle, the Netherlands. He took the most amazing pictures of Zwolle in the years after World War II. Pictures of everyday life, how the city was being rebuilt and the special summer day’s when the carnival was in town. His collection of photographs were to be presented in a small artful exhibition and I was asked to design the announcement posters. Grabbing my inspiration from old printing methods and photo development I quickly came up with a style for the posters.

Posters that featured Dolf Henneke would be black and white just as his audience would see his pictures. Dolf would be almost be hiding on the borders of the poster. On his eyes a red stroke, bringing attention to those magical eyes that spotted the right scenes to photograph. Other posters would feature his photo’s in red, as seen through the red stroke covering his eyes, or as you see the photos for the first time during development, in the red-room.
